We asked 5 questions, click through the photos to learn more about the man behind the camera!
How long have you lived in Oswego?
JM: I have lived in Oswego for 69+ years, my entire life.
Has photography always been your interest?
JM: I have loved photography my whole life. I got my first camera in 1958, at the age of 7 and never set it down
When you aren’t busy taking pictures, what can you be found doing?
JM: Now that I'm older, I stay pretty close to home. I spend time with my cat, Mr. Coal Dude, and my feral cat tribe (stray cats that I look after throughout the year), Buddy, Sammy & Ms. Midnight. I love to cook, tend to my vegetable garden, and watch videos about different photography techniques.
What photo are you the proudest of/was the most fun to capture?
JM: The photo of Tae is probably my ultimate favorite. I was able to get to know him over an all-to-brief a time, and we connected. We lost Tae in 2016, to brain cancer, one of the saddest days in my life. The photograph of the two kids walking across the ball diamond; that was an organic photo that still takes my breath away, today.
What has been the best community experience you’ve had while working for iHeartOswego?
JM: Meeting all the great families and kids of our city, and being able to photograph them throughout the last nine years. I love all the events we cover, but some just stand out just little bit more than others.
Jerry summed up in a word: COMMITTED. Jerry is committed to perfecting his craft! He doesn’t stop trying to be his best w/his camera. He is committed to this community!
Being a long time resident, he tirelessly volunteers to shoot events all over Oswego. He is committed to his cat posse and most importantly, he is committed to the kids in this community!
We know Jerry is always been committed to his iHeartOswego Family.
We appreciate you, Jerry Maher!
