The Syracuse World Refugee Day Planning Committee has announced the 2024 Annual World Refugee Day events for June 20-22.
World Refugee Day of Syracuse brings together hundreds of refugees, immigrants, and community members from the Syracuse region to celebrate immigrant contributions and achievements in Central New York. The event has been held in Syracuse for over a decade. It was established by the United Nations and is celebrated globally.
“World Refugee Day values the stories of identity, empowerment, and liberation that exist in every refugee and immigrant. The day celebrates joy, family, culture, and community for so many,” said Fatna Mohamed, Committee Co-Chair.
“The day is also about honoring the sacrifice and struggle that New Americans experience as they work toward their many accomplishments as students, athletes, professionals, public servants, business owners, and neighbors,” said Hassina Adams, World Refugee Day Committee Co-Chair.
The Committee will be hosting two events for World Refugee Day:
