Local writer and speaker, Lisa M. Buske, is a catalyst for others affected by tragedy. Her sister's abduction in 1994 left her depressed and lonely yet with God's hand at work in her heart and life...true healing took place.
Buske's latest book, "Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey," was released in April, and she will be at the Oswego Public Library to give a talk and to sign her book, at 6 p.m., April 25.
"Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey" opens with a phone call. The answering machine picks up and
records her aunt's voice as she utters words Lisa will never forget, "Heidi is missing!" The beginning of the book focuses on the first minutes, hours, and days following that ominous phone call. A flashback to the last evening they spent together introduces the reader to the cheerful and optimistic 18-year-old before she is ripped from their lives. April 3, 2013, marked the 19th anniversary of Heidi's kidnapping with the same three words still reigning true today...Heidi is missing.
Buske said it took years for her to realize her sister was forever gone and she was not alone. "Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey" is written to release the brother or sister trapped within themselves "going through the motions" of life from unneeded years of pain and loneliness.
ABOUT THE BOOK (in the author's words):
"Where's Heidi?" is written in a conversational tone to invite the reader for a journey no one ever expects to take — a journey through abduction and the loss of hope, family, and faith. With a soft and comforting tone, I speak to the sibling left to deal with the stress and grief experienced when their brother or sister is tragically taken from their lives. Through my experience, one will recognize similar emotions with new or renewing perspective; they aren't alone, someone else understands, and there is hope to get through with joy.
The final chapter is not one of recovery and reunion since Heidi is still missing. Instead, it will consume the reader with the trust required to survive losing one's brother or sister and the true source of strength and hope to endure each day of not knowing through a relationship with Jesus.
The book transitions from the day Heidi disappeared to the present, with highlights of the events, people and experiences I thought insignificant at the time, yet proved to be evidence of God's working in my life. My book reveals abduction from a sister's perspective to encourage and open communication between the reader and their family through intense yet comforting personal reflections. Their time spent reading will confirm feelings and healing, often unexplored or missed by outsiders. God has taken a tragic instance of my life and transformed it into a life saving occurrence. I write out with passion and obedience for the God who saved me knowing others need to hear my story.
"Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey" meets an unmet need for the sibling living without their brother or sister. Each day at least one child goes missing yet there isn't a book written to inspire and address the remaining child's spiritual needs for survival after this loss.
