The Hook series returns to the Oswego Music Hall on Friday Sept 29. Offering an intimate evening featuring Singer Songwriters in a listening environment, the event takes place in the Mccrobie Building,41 Lake Street Oswego.

The Hook allows the performers to interact with the audience and each other as they present their original material and discuss the songwriting process. Doors open at 7:00 for the 7:30 event. The evening will present a special “duo” format with three spectacular acts. .

Andy Ruddy & Monique Ritter:

Andy Ruddy and Monique Ritter, members of Syracuse’s Ruddy Well Band, have been playing music together since they met ten years ago in Pulaski, NY. Combining finely-crafted dynamic rhythms, tight harmonies, and mindful lyrics, the acoustic contemporary folk duo bring a songwriting chemistry only cultivated over time. Derek & Dustin Garafolo:

Derek and Dustin Garafolo are native to the small Port City of Oswego, NY and from a young age they expressed great interest in music. While growing up it was common to find them singing along to their mother's Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel albums. By the age of seven the boys joined the school chorus, along with the school Orchestra and Symphonic band. Dustin would choose to play the double bass and Derrick, the trumpet. By their teenage years the brothers' musical interests began to sway toward rock and roll. Dustin started playing guitar at age 12 and Derrick picked up piano around the same time. Derrick would eventually go on to study music in college. Dustin, who also has a passion for the visual arts, went off to attend private art school.

Years later the two still maintain a mutual love of music and continue to perform together. Both Dustin and Derek are accomplished songwriters and have been a part numerous bands from coast. Today they perform with their band of 10 years, The Love Volcanoes and are currently in the studio with the band recording a new full length original album. At this time no release date has been set. You can follow the boys and their schedule via The Love Volcanoes on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Love-Volcanoes-265508003475126/

Pepper & Sassafras:

Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers, grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, teams up with multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Wendy Sassafras Ramsay in this dynamic Americana duo. Rodgers, also the founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, delivers masterful band-in-a-box guitar work while Ramsay, harmonizer extraordinaire, adds flute, clarinet, guitar, accordion, and her quirky originals to the mix.

Based in Syracuse, the two musicians collaborated on Rodgers’ latest album, Almost There, a Sammy Award winner for Best Americana, and performed with the full JPR Band in the Emerging Artist Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Now known as Pepper and Sassafras, the duo has quickly made a mark on the folk/roots scene. In 2016, they were selected as Best Duo finalist at FreshGrass and the New Voices winner at the Turtle Hill Folk Festival.

“Wendy is as sassy as sassafras. Jeffrey is the antithesis of hot pepper: gentle and thoughtful. Together they stir up great music—clever, funny, and thought provoking.”—Park Coffeehouse
