The Maples, a new locally owned and operated 89-bed Assisted Living Residence in Fulton, NY will have its official ribbon cutting on April 4, 2024.

The five-year long project began in 2019 with construction completed in early 2021. Owners and equity partners are Atom Avery, owner of Avery Rental Properties in Oswego which provides more than 100 units of residential space throughout the Oswego community, and Dr. Michael Stephens, a 20-year resident of Oswego and Associate Chief Medical Officer for Oswego Health.

The Maples occupies the premises once held by Michaud Residential Health Services, a nonprofit nursing and short-stay rehabilitation facility that ceased operations in 2017. Originally acquired by St. Luke Health Services from the County of Oswego in 2005, Michaud served the community for 11 years. The building has undergone a comprehensive renovation and was constructed in 1973.

“We are proud to carry on a tradition of caring at this address,” Avery said. “With the closure of Michaud Residential Health Services, our community faced a void—a void not just in physical space but in the warmth of compassionate support our seniors deserve. The Maples isn't merely a building; it's a beacon of hope, a symbol of progress. It represents our collective dedication to ensuring our elders thrive in an environment tailored to their needs.”

The newly repurposed facility has undergone a complete transformation, boasting elegant design and décor. It offers a beautiful, homelike residence complete with comprehensive assisted living services including private or semi-private rooms, Wellness Center, barber/beauty salon, computer lab and Wi-Fi access, housekeeping and laundry, in room cable TV, Central bathing and spa on each floor, delicious dining services, and an in building movie theater.

The Maples will have home health aides and LPNs around the clock to assure that care and support for our residents is always available. The Maples also offers help with medication management, therapeutic diets, oxygen and diabetic management support. Our caring staff takes pride in providing an atmosphere that truly feels like home, while delivering comprehensive care 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The facility should employ about 40 staff when the building is fully operational.

“It is our goal for The Maples to be an active resource for the community,’ Andrea Ball, RN, BSN, and Administrator at The Maples. “We're not just creating a residence; we're crafting a community of compassion, connection, and care. Each individual who walks through our doors becomes a cherished member of our extended family, and together, we'll nurture a haven where comfort, dignity, and joy thrive."

Both Avery and Dr. Stevens  notes and appreciates the community support they have received along the way, specifically from Pathfinder Bank who without their help The Maples “wouldn’t have been possible.”

The Maples provides an active living community and promotes independence while offering the support services necessary to assist individuals with health care needs.

Private Pay and Medicaid beneficiaries are accepted, and Private tours are available with an appointment.

The Maples grand opening is April 4 at 2 p.m. at the new office at 453 Park Street, in Fulton. An open house will follow from 2:00 - 4:00PM, and again from 6:00 - 8:00PM. The public is invited to attend.
