The Oswego Players host open auditions for their summer production of “Unnecessary Farce” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13 and 14 at the Frances Marion Brown Theater on Barbara Donahue Drive in Oswego.
There are seven roles, including three adult females and four adult males. One of the male roles requires a Scottish accent. The play contains adult themes. Those who would like to audition will be asked to perform a cold reading from the script.
“Unnecessary Farce” is written by Paul Slade Smith and directed by Tom Briggs. The play is set in a cheap motel room, where an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. However, there’s some confusion about who is in which room, who is being videotaped, who has taken the money, who has hired a hit man, and why bagpipes are necessary.
“This is an incredibly funny play, the comedy we need in these times,” said Briggs. “I’m looking forward to pulling together a first-rate cast and crew and providing the audience with genuine enjoyment and side-splitting laughter.”
“Unnecessary Farce” will run Fridays through Sundays, July 11-13 and 18-20. Friday and Saturday shows will start at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday matinees will begin at 2 p.m.
This project is made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program thanks to a New York State Senate Initiative supported by the NYS Legislature, the Office of the Governor and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
