The Oswego Players have found great success with their hilarious productions in the past and “Unnecessary Farce” is no exception.

The group learned that the acclaimed comedy, the third of its 87th season, was honored with three awards from the Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS).

“We’re thrilled that our members were honored with these prestigious awards from TANYS,” said Tammy Thompson, president of The Oswego Players. “It is extremely rewarding to know that the passion and dedication that goes into our productions is appreciated.”

The honors were awarded at the “Excellence” level, recognizing “a theatrical skill base not routinely noted in non-professional theatre.”

The troupe received the following awards:

  • Excellence in Direction to Tom Briggs
  • Excellence in Performance to the cast
  • Excellence in Scenic Design and Construction to Bill Cowham and Ken Snow

“Unnecessary Farce” by Paul Slade Smith featured two cops, three crooks and eight doors. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hit man, and more.

Paul Nelson, vice president of Adjudication Services for TANYS, announced that the awards will be presented at the annual TANYS Festival in November.
