Teenage sensation Anthony Losurdo proved yet again that the future is bright at Oswego Speedway as the soon to be Oswego High School graduate drove to his third career Pathfinder Bank SBS win on Saturday in the prestigious Tony White Memorial, presented by Shea Concrete and Corr/Pak Merchandising.
Losurdo started fifth on the grid, eventually passing race leader Jeremy Pitcher on lap 26 of 35, then holding off the late advances of defending Speedway track champion Andrew Schartner for the big win.
Kreig Heroth, Pitcher, and Dennis Rupert were the top five with Camden Proud, Jason Simmons, Matt Magner, Jack Patrick, and Josh Kerr landing in the top ten spots.
Pitcher and Rupert started the main event from the front row on Saturday with Barry Kingsley and Mark Castiglia starting from the second row.
Trouble struck early however as Mike Bond and Alex Hoag ended up together in turn three with Alex McRae, and Castiglia
Hoag, Bond, and McRae would all park their machines.
The early restart showed Pitcher leading Rupert, Kingsley, Losurdo, Simmons, JJ Andrews, and Russ Brown.
Pitcher continued his steady pace in the lead with Losurdo, Brown, and Schartner working through the pack.
Both Brown and Schartner used the outside lane, nearly to perfection, eventually working in behind Losurdo who had managed to drive around Kinglsey for third.
From lap 10-20 it was Pitcher, Losurdo, Brown, and Schartner all battling ferociously, but all good things eventually come to an end.
Lap 21 saw Brown sideways out of turn two with Kinglsey and Dave Cliff getting involved.
Kingsley's No. 91 would suffer massive damage to the right front corner as the car slammed the outside turn two steel.
Cliff would also have to be hooked off of the Speedway.
Both drivers were ok, but each along with Brown were done for the night.
Once back to green Pitcher continued to lead out front but Losurdo and Schartner were charging hard in front of Rupert, Heroth, Simmons, Proud, Patrick, Magner, and Kerr.
Losurdo and Schartner continued to pressure Pitcher over the course of the next five laps, until the caution would wave one last time for Zach Amo, who laid fluid down on the Speedway surface.
The caution and subsequent restart was what Losurdo needed to steal the lead, as when the green lights came back on Losurdo dove low on Pitcher for the point between turns one and two, bringing Schartner along for the ride.
Pitcher would slide back to the fourth spot as Heroth drove through as well.
Just like on opening night, Schartner threw everything but the kitchen sink at the race leader over the course of the final laps, but it was Losurdo's day in the FFB No. 1, taking the Tony White Memorial for the biggest win of the young driver's career.
Just one race after being declared the night's Hard Luck winner, Matt Magner drove to the D&S Landscaping Hard Charger Award on Saturday with an eighth place finish.
Dennis Rupert put on a career defining fifth place run in the No. 99 to be the Nice Price Auto Sales Up and Comer.
Longtime race leader Pitcher would go on to the White's Car Care 4th Place Award as well as the Sherwood Racing Wheels Lap Leader Award while Mike Bond was the Bacc-Off Hard Luck Award recipient.
Shell Shock Custom Helmet Paint Heat Race Challenge wins went to Bond, Kingsley, and Castiglia.
Racing at Oswego Speedway continues on Saturday, May 30 with the Spring Championship featuring the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS with $15 admission.
