Trudy E. Smith, 90, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, with her family by her side.
She was born as Edeltraut Graedtke, on September 25, 1934, to Helene Heide and Emil Graedtke, in Tauroggen, Lithuania.
She immigrated to the USA in March 1952. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Leonard Smith, and son, Richard Hermann.
Trudy is survived by her brother Manfred (Maggie) Graedtke and sister Karin Neaderbaomer, children Paul (Gina) Hermann, Kathy (Stew) Corey, and stepchildren Leonard (Lily) Smith and Candy (Barry) White. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Donna (Justin) Ward, Jessica Corey, Sara Weber, Angela (Chuck) Neal, Elizabeth (Daniel) Smith, Elyse (Trevin) Bare, Kelsey (Matt) Comfort, and grandsons Jacob (Jenn), and Spencer (Coleena) Hermann, and Randall White; as well as great-grandchildren Kathryn and Liam Ward, Oliver, Barrett and Ava Hermann and baby girl Ellie on the way.
Coming from a family of 10 children, she is predeceased by several siblings and survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Trudy leaves behind her beloved kitties, Twiggy and Pumpkin, who she rescued and nourished for several years. She demonstrated the true meaning of beauty with a smile that lit up a room and a heart that left an impact on everyone she met.
From her caretakers, to her hairdresser, to her doctors, to random people she met in a store or restaurant, she made everyone her bonus family with a kiss, hug and an “I love you”. She was well-known as Oma.
A calling hour will be held Wednesday, May 21, from 4:00 to 5:00 at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street, Oswego. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 Wednesday, following the calling hour.
