Bishop's Commons Enriched Living Residence in Oswego will kick off a summer-long speaker series especially for seniors with an informational forum entitled, "Understanding Advanced Care Planning", presented by local Attorney Sara E. Davis.

Davis, who has over 21 years of experience in the area of advanced care planning will review the importance of making your personal healthcare wishes known through the use of Advanced Directives, and the various documents and considerations needed for retaining control of, and protecting your right to request medical treatments or procedures you want - and refusing medical treatments or procedures you do not want, if you lose the ability to make decisions yourself.

"Advanced care planning can seem like something that you can put off until later or is an issue that won't affect you now because you may enjoy good health," said Davis. "But our circumstances can change and it is in your interest and that of your family's to go through the process of Advanced Care Planning to ensure your healthcare wishes are protected."

The forum will include a discussion on the importance of a Health Care Proxy, Living Will and Power of Attorney; three documents in the Advance Care Planning process. Guests will have the opportunity to have their questions answered. Davis will also review the steps you should consider when discussing your wishes with you designated healthcare agent.

The hour long forum, which includes a light meal, will be offered at two times; Tuesday afternoon June 2nd beginning at Noon, and again on Thursday evening June 4th at 5:30 p.m. The forum will be held at Bishop Commons Enriched Living Residence, 4 Burkle Street in Oswego.

The forum is free of charge and open to the public. Lunch will be served at the June 2nd forum while dinner will be served on June 4th.

Those seeking more information, or who are planning to attend on either date are asked to RSVP to Bishop's Commons at (315) 349-0799. On the web at www.bcommons.com and Facebook at St Luke Family of Caring.
