You may have participated in the United Way Golf Tournament or enjoyed its annual Harborfest Breakfast. But have you ever wondered just where those donations go and how they impact your community?
United Way recently completed its community investment process and Executive Director, Melanie Trexler has announced that United Way is providing funding to 27 programs administered through 21 human services agencies. These vital programs provide services to thousands of individuals and families throughout Oswego County. From children to seniors United Way supported programs improve the quality of life for those they serve.
United Ways Community Investment process involves five panels of community volunteers that, based on the principles and polices of United Way, objectively study and review agency programs to ensure that there will be an effective and well-balanced array of community services available in Oswego County. It also allows these same people the opportunity to see how United Way dollars are being used in our community and realize that the United Way ensures that its dollars are used wisely by holding its member agencies accountable and measuring their programs outcomes.
Our community investment panels do an excellent job in evaluating human services programs that include the categories of Emergency Services, Children and Family Services, Health and Special Needs, Senior Services, and Youth Development. This ensures that we are good stewards of the donations we receive and that we do the most good with the resources we have, explained Trexler.
Programs that received United Way funding include:
- ARC of Oswego County (Oswego Industries) Supporting Families with Children with undetermined / determined developmental delays
- ARISE Housing Advocacy and Assistance Program for Individuals with Special Needs
- Aurora of CNY Social Work Services for Individuals with vision or hearing loss
- Boy Scouts of America in Oswego County
- Council on Alcoholism and Addictions of Oswego County Preventative Services
- Catholic Charities CYO Program
- Catholic Charities Emergency Services Program
- Child Advocacy Center Services for child victims of sexual or physical abuse
- Childrens Center of Oswego Toddler and Preschool Programs for low-income families
- Enable Home Service Program for Disabled Persons
- Farnham Family Services Outpatient Chemical Addiction Treatment
- Farnham Family Services Prevention Education and Student Assistance Program
- Girl Scouts NYPEEN Pathways Leadership Experience Program
- Human Concerns Center Food Pantry and Advocacy
- Legal Aid Society Mid-State NY Domestic Violence Legal Services Program
- Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Discover Day Care Early Learning Center
- OCO SAF Haven for Women and Children in Crisis / Domestic Violence
- OCO Options Program for pregnant / parenting teens and their babies
