Veterans Small Business Week Spotlight: Guy King

In recognition of Veterans Small Business Week, AmeriCU would like to present local veteran and entrepreneur, Mr. Guy King.

A USAF Retiree, Guy King initially served as an inflight refueling specialist, aircrew member, instructor and evaluator for the KC-135R, most notably serving in Desert Storm flying numerous combat and combat support missions out of the country of Oman. He moved on to additionally perform as a flight operations manager responsible for daily flight operations, flight training readiness and worldwide deployments for 20 aircraft and 200 aircrew while at Griffiss AFB, NY and later at Grand Forks AFB, ND.

King further extended his career as a Mission Support and Airlift Operations Coordinator operating out of McGuire AFB providing direct worldwide onsite support for airlift and contingency missions for all US branches of service. He wrapped up his career by becoming a Manpower, Organization and Quality Management professional performing work and organizational studies. He was responsible for advising base commanders on these matters.

Upon retirement, King took some time to himself before becoming involved in the family waste management business. It wasn’t long before he prepared for expansion into a new business, Kings Roll Off Services, which provides roll off dumpsters for construction and demolition projects, home clean-outs and industrial needs. This business, as a separate entity, is in its fifth year of operation and is a NYS Certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOB).

King then added King Development Company and Great Lakes Athletics and Fitness businesses in 2016. King Development was to be an opportunity for commercial property development, general contracting and other possibilities. Great Lakes Athletics and Fitness, located at 7 Silk Rd, Fulton, NY, was created to give the youth in our communities a local option with unique sports facilities to meet and train with professional and non-professional athletes/trainers. Guy shared this dream with former NFL player and running back Leroy Collins. They teamed together to provide our youth with the additional opportunities to elevate their athletic skills and sports fitness to become better athletes that are more coach-able and competitive. Life changing possibilities and opportunities are their ultimate goals.

Their upcoming Dream Football Camp, beginning on November 9th, is another step in this direction. The six-day camp will provide young athletes with the opportunity to meet and train with former NFL football players and Super Bowl Champions. What an opportunity for Oswego County!

Guy continues to use his military and business skills to create businesses, jobs and opportunities while being supportive and giving back to our local community. Let’s help him and his businesses continue to thrive and benefit the community through our local support and bringing our young athletes and youth to use these great sports facilities.
