When the lights go up on the Frances Marion Brown Stage, the audience will get their first glimpse of the comedy, “Dearly Departed.” There sits Ranelle Turpin and Bud her husband of 39 years.
Its an oppressively hot and humid southern morning and Ray and Ranelle are doing what they enjoy best. Ray is catching up on the news, and Ranelle is busy knitting and listening to some of her favorite inspirational music on the radio.
Now if you look real closely, you might recognize Tammy Ackman Thompson. Tammy plays Ranelle, the loving matriarch of the Turpin family. Tammy is a veteran of the Oswego Players’ stage and has entertained folks many times over the years. This time around as Ranelle, she has to navigate family and friends through the often challenging, more often hilarious, task of pulling her loved ones together to celebrate dearly departed Bud’s long and cantankerous life. And you can only imagine how all fingers are crossed.
But wait, who is that behind the newspaper? We know it must be Bud Turpin. We already told you that didn’t we. But, who is it that’s playing Bud Turpin? Let’s see. He has jeans on! Oh my, take a look at those saddle shoes. Who wears saddle shoes these days? Think ya might know? And is that a bald head we see peeking above the newspaper? Know who it is yet? Well, guess you’ll just have to come see the play if you can’t guess by now.
