Why does a chicken cross the road? To get a part in an Oswego Players production of Jack Sharkey’s farce, “Who’s on First?” of course.
A rubber chicken, not a real chicken, and a talking magic lamp are essential characters in the upcoming production directed by Sherri Metz. The play is set to open in mid-September.
The play revolves around four people who are caught up in a cycle of off-handed wishes that come true, creating one hilarious situation after another. In the midst of it all, a rubber chicken repeatedly appears causing havoc, misunderstandings and general mayhem as the characters maneuver to be released from the grips of the wishes that the magic lamp has fulfilled.
Metz has assembled a cast of versatile actors who have taken on the task of re-inventing themselves in the various scenes scripted by the playwright. Appearing as the husband, Don is Peter Mahan, his wife, Alice is played by Tammy Lynn Wilkinson, the friend, Camille, is portrayed by Julia Preston-Fulton, the lover is Knathan MacKenzie-Roy and the voice of the lamp is Brian Pringle. The rubber chicken plays itself.
“Who’s on First?” will be performed on the stage of the Frances Marion Brown Theater in the Arts Center at Fort Ontario Park, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.
