Willliam C. Chetney, 92, a resident of Raleigh, NC and formerly of County Route 176 in Fulton and Oswego passed away Friday morning at the home of his son Timothy, in Raleigh.
Mr. Chetney was born in Oswego and was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy Muldoon Chetney. He was the husband of Audrey J. Quackenbush Chetney for 72 years. Mr. Chetney was a Journey Wireman with the IBEW local 328 and 43 for 55 years and worked on the construction of Alcan, Nine Mile 1&2, Fitzpatrick Nuclear Plant and was a maintenance electrician at Nestles in Fulton. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid bowler with IBEW 328 bowling team for many years. He volunteered in his spare time at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton. He loved NASCAR and during retirement spent many years on the road following the NASCAR trail. He was a square dancer with The Shirts and Skirts square dance club out of Volney. He loved spending time with his three children and wife at the family camp on Fair Haven Bay in the summertime and snowmobiling in the wintertime.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Linda and Husband Richard Hyde of Fulton, two sons, William “Lee” and Wife Wilma Chetney of Oswego, Timothy and Wife Julie (Goddaughter) Chetney of Raleigh, NC. Also Survived by 7 Grandsons, Richard III, Russel, Ryan, William “Billy”, Jeremy, Edwin, and Daniel. 2 Granddaughters, Katrina, and Rachael. 15 Great grandchildren and 2 great great Grandchildren. Along with his brother James (Sandy) Chetney of Scriba and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Chetney.
Funeral Services will be held 10AM Friday, November 17, at St. Mary’s Church and Shrine.
Calling Hours will be 3-6PM Thursday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
