The Salmon River Fine Arts Center proudly announces the winners of their first juried show and competition themed on the Salmon River entitled “Hooked on the Salmon River.”
The show was created to showcase artwork from the region’s many fine artists who have found inspiration by the beautiful and swift-flowing river that runs past the art center through the small historic Village of Pulaski. The river and its tributaries and wetlands have long been a source of inspiration for local artists as well as drawing sport fishing and nature enthusiasts from all over the globe.
In order to be safe and adhere to the state’s COVID safety guidelines the winners of the “Hooked on the Salmon River” show and competition were announced through a Facebook Live award ceremony held this past Friday. The juror of the show was Lawrence C. Barone. Barone is a multi-disciplined fine artist and owner of The Gallery-Fine Art & Studio, located in Sackets Harbor. He has juried several shows and has had his own work selected for numerous juried shows across the country.
Cash prizes and awards were based on originality, craftsmanship and adherence to the theme. The awards and winners are as follows. Best in Show: “Day's Catch,” oil by Virginia Hovendon; 1st Place: “Salmon Splash,” ceramic sculpture by Ann Buchau; 2nd Place: “Steelhead 2,”oil by Michael Johnson; 3rd Place: “Making a Splash,” jewelry by Theresa Mehaffy and an honorable mention was awarded to “Up From the River,” watercolor by Dona Flaherty.
