Women of Oswego Weigh in on Hair Trends of the Season

The colder it gets in central New York, the more and more female residents of Oswego (including myself) seem to wonder, “What should I do with my hair?”

With a chill in the air, crazy wind speeds and wet snow, it can be hard for even the most experienced “hair genius” to figure out how to wear her mane every day. As of late, I have been covering local and trendy clothing shops around the Oswego City area, however, this week we will be talking to several women of Oswego, N.Y. who have some pretty solid ideas about what they will be doing with their hair this winter. Despite the snowy weather Oswego has recently faced, I took to the streets to find stylish and bright women to ask about their seasonal hair preferences, and I was fortunate enough to meet some fabulous ladies along the way.

Walking down West First Street by Canal Commons, I ran into Penny Clemons, Oswego resident, who gave me some great opinions about her hair and what she plans to do with it this winter.

“I like to keep my hair darker in the winter, to go with the colder weather,” Clemons said. “I think that the dark color looks more rich in the colder months. The cold weather, compared to the heat and sun of summer, doesn’t fade your color out as quickly.”

Brooke Firenze, a student in Oswego, discussed how she likes to keep her hair cut in the winter months.

“I like to keep my hair trimmed nicely and at a shorter length, right around my shoulders,” Firenze states. “It’s so windy here especially in the winter, that I can’t stand it if my hair is too long and blowing in my face.”

We laughed as I told her that I too have that problem here in Oswego with my own long hair.

The third lovely lady I was able to hunt down is long-time Oswego resident Monica Lee. After we discussed her history in Oswego, I learned that Lee has lived in Oswego for over 30 years.

“I’ve always kept my hair style pretty simple,” Lee said. “I have about medium length hair, and I always try to do different things with it here and there, but also do things with it that are convenient for my lifestyle. I tend to keep my hair up in the winter, I’m a big fan of the ponytail and just keep it up out of my face.”

After meeting and discussing this winter’s hair trends with these three stylish women of Oswego, I can say that it was an awesome experience for me as the interviewer and that these women’s sense of hairstyle is very on trend with what we will be seeing this season. I personally think that some hot hair trends for these upcoming months will be dark color, mid-cut, and even some up dos. A high, sleek ponytail is a go-to for any lady on the run, and also a topknot bun. If you’re looking for a more formal or dressy hairstyle, loose curls are perfect and easy for winter. So if you (like many of us) aren’t sure how to do any of these hairstyles, I would suggest you ask your local hairdresser, or even search the web for tips and ideas.

This time of year, convenience is key when it comes to a hair routine, and finding what works best for you is the ultimate goal of any style. Style encompasses not only the clothing we wear, but also how we as women choose to style and wear our hair. If your hair looks great, you feel great.
