Squared Circle Wrestling owner and colleagues thought they were going to pull a fast one on fans by posting on Facebook that if the Syracuse Orangemen made the Sweet 16 they would hold a reunion show.
Well, the joke is on owner as of Sunday, March 20th, The Syracuse Orangemen advanced to the Sweet 16 after beating The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 75-50, giving 2CW fans a 2CW reunion show.
According to KJ Parker, who helps run 2CW stated “What started as a rib around the dinner table turned into something that brought not only 2CW fans together, but SU basketball fans as well.” This coming from Parker whom admitted he has never watched a basketball game in his life until now. Well, fortunately for 2CW fans, the joke backfired on the 2CW owner Josh Jeanneret . Parker stated that “In spirit and passion that 2CW owner Josh Jeanneret has for Syracuse's basketball team, he made the "joke" public.” Jeanneret had made several posts on the 2CW page and their fan page as well. Parker stated that he had reminded Jeanneret that he was retired from wrestling, Jeanneret had assured Parker that Syracuse would not make the Sweet 16. Parker stated that while it started out as a joke, the reunion show will “Absolutely happen,” within one year as promised.
Along with the promise of a reunion show for 2CW, Jeanneret posted that is the Syracuse Orangemen can win the whole NCAA Tournament that 2CW would return for a whole year. Parker stated “Syracuse can win it all and determine how many shows we will do, one or a year full? The 2CW Heavyweight Champion and former World Wrestling Entertainment NXT star posted this on his Twitter account:
Brute VanSlyke, a Central New York and 2CW native commented “Its crazy that how after only two college basketball games fans and top Indy wrestling talent are all going crazy for one night of 2CW sometime in the future.” VanSlyke also stated 2cw “Always created moments and magic to become something bigger than just another wrestling event. If we were able to create so much energy in a few days without running any events, what do you think 2CW will give you when we return even if it's just for one night!”
Steve Kruz, who has been with 2CW since its very first show dating back ten years ago commented “I'm psyched about it!” Kruz has been injured and just made his return to the ring last week. Kruz hopes that 2CW management, along with his former tag team partner “Studly” Steve McKenzie are game for The Killer Steve’s tag team to return to 2CW. Kruz stated “I mean, it's called One Night Stand! You can't have that show without Mr. One Night Stand!!!”
Another 2CW wrestler, Jay Freddie stated “I think it’s awesome!” Freddie, whom had admitted he is one of the biggest Syracuse Orange basketball fans, but 2CW was “The company where I started and probably had my most memorable matches.” To Freddie, the Syracuse Orangemen and 2CW are more than just a game or a show. “There’s an emotional investment.” According to Freddie, “Hopefully the orange can keep the hope alive and keep advancing!”
While for the Syracuse Orangemen advancing in the NCAA Tournament means one step closer to another championship. For the fans of 2CW, it means one step closer to one more year of 2CW shows!
