3 Ways to Stick to Your New Year`s Resolution and Still Fulfill Your Inner Shopaholic

`Save money` was definitely on our list of New Year`s resolutions, and we are willing to bet it was on yours as well.

This early in the year you probably don't even want to think about spending money, after all that exhausting Christmas shopping last month. But soon, you know that shopaholic inside of you is going to surface again. Don't get caught up in another downward spiral of thoughtless spending. Here are a few tips to encourage frugal, intelligent, and sensible (wink wink) shopping in 2014.

1. Sell your unwanted clothes and use the money for a guilt free shopping trip

Cleaning out your closet is a great way to start off the New Year. This year consider consigning your unwanted items to make money that you can then turn around and save. As the owners of Sensibility Outfitters Women's Consignment Shop in downtown Oswego, we really like this option and it make sense! All you have to do is bring us your brand name, gently used clothing and we will sell it for you in our comfortable boutique setting. We will do all the dirty work and still give you 40% of the final sale.

2. Take advantage of end of the season discounts

Right now is the best time to buy things for your winter wardrobe. Face it, Oswegonian Princess, you are still facing four more months of winter regardless, whether or not that stupid groundhog sees its shadow. BUY THOSE BOOTS! (Or that coat, or that scarf). By the time next winter rolls around they will still be in great shape, which means you won't have to dish out the dough for a new pair at full price when winter rolls around again. Now that is smart shopping.

3. Use your gift cards and gift certificates wisely

Gift cards are a great gift for someone who loves clothes. We always end up with quite a few of them after the holidays. You will probably end up spending money out of your own pocket as well.

There is a way to avoid this though! Take a trip to your own closet before you take a trip to the store. Take a second to recall those times you were trying to get dressed but felt like you had nothing to wear. What were the specific things you wished you owned in those moments? Maybe it's a peach colored undershirt, a tan pair of pants, or short black boots. Make a very specific list of these wanted items before going shopping. Knowing what you are looking for will help you stick to spending only the amount of money on the gift card. Additionally, adding these specific items to your wardrobe will help you make better use of the things you already own.

Happy New Year!
