"Adopt-A-Grandparent" Joins SUNY Students with St. Francis Residents

Students from SUNY Oswego’s Adopt-A-Grandparent Program have had an active year engaging with residents at St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence!

The Adopt-A-Grandparent Program connects students with senior adults in the community through programs and activities. Each week St. Francis Commons welcomes students who visit and have the opportunity to spend time with residents talking, sharing stories and participating in a planned activity. The program is facilitated through the Center for Service Learning and Community Service, and is active at neighboring affiliates St. Luke Health Services and Bishop’s Commons as well.

“Our residents look forward to spending time with the college students and working together on projects, or just talking and learning from one another,” said St. Francis Commons Activities Director Peggy LiVoti. “This is a true intergenerational experience that I think benefits everyone who is involved and it has been fun to watch relationships develop and grow throughout the year. Thanks to SUNY Oswego and our students who have made our residents feel connected with their community.”

St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence is a part of The St. Luke Family of Caring, an affiliation of community-based, not-for-profit healthcare providers serving the greater-Oswego County area. Located on the St. Luke healthcare campus in the City of Oswego, St. Francis Commons provides supportive housing and home care services in a comfortable, single-story residence accommodating 60 individuals in fully equipped private or shared-private rooms.
