The Art Scene @ CNY Arts Center will present the first performance in their newly renovated theater this Friday through Sunday, April 5-7, with a second set of performances taking place the following weekend, April 12-14.
Always A Bridesmaid, a Jones-Hope-Wooten comedy will be directed by Paul McKinney. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 pm, while the Sunday matinee performances will begin at 2:00 pm.
iHeart Oswego recently attended a rehearsal for Always A Bridesmaid, and spoke with McKinney beforehand. The local theater veteran said, "This is going to be a great show. We have an all-female cast performing as strong Southern women. These ladies were born to play these roles!"
The play was first performed in 2013. It introduces theater-goers to four lifelong friends who promised each other on the night of their Senior Prom that they would be bridesmaids in each other's weddings, no matter what! Thirty years later, as the friends assemble for yet another wedding, the four friends definitively answer the question, "Just how far are you willing to go to keep a promise to a friend?"
The ensemble cast features Sherri Metz, Beverly Murtha, Jennifer Waugh and Beth Derousie as the bridesmaids. Making her acting debut is Millie Grace as the wedding planner, and Megan Murtha plays the bride-to-be.
Director McKinney credits set creators Skeeter and Bob Collins for the design of the spacious layout of the Laurelton Oaks wedding venue, as well as costume designer Tracy Edson for her work as well. "The characters go through numerous costume changes, so Tracy really had her work cut out for her," he said.
"The CNY Arts Center was a recipient of a grant through the City of Fulton's New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative," McKinney said. "They replaced the roof, raised the ceiling height significantly, installed new sound and lighting systems, installed new exterior doors and more. This theater is a dream to work in, and I can't wait to see what the audience has to say about their experience."
Tickets for Always A Bridemaid at the Art Scene @ CNY Arts Center, 121 Cayuga Street in Fulton will be priced at $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Advance tickets are available by calling the box office at (315) 598-2787, or online at www.cnyartscenter.com. Once again, shows will be held Friday through Sunday on two weekends: April 5-7 and April 12-14.
