The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center would like to announce its upcoming programs for the month of May.

With spring well underway, life in the wetlands and woods is resuming its abundance.  Each program includes a learning component, followed by a walk along the trails.  People of all ages are welcome to attend.

The first program, Nifty Nests, is happening on Saturday, May 9th, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It will focus on bird nests.  Participants will be introduced to the different styles of nests birds construct.  Later, a challenge will be presented; attendees will use various materials as they attempt to create their own version of a nest.  During the time outside, a guided trail walk will take place as bird nests are sought out in the woods.

The second program, Log Hotels, is happening on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will focus on organisms that live on or in decaying logs.  Participants will learn about the plethora of organisms that depend on decaying logs for food or shelter.  Once outside, attendees will proceed on a guided walk.  At various spots along the trail, there will be opportunities to explore logs in different states of decay and search for decomposers beneath them.

The third program, Among Beavers, is happening on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The focus will be on beavers.  Participants will discover the cyclical nature of beaver existence, along with how they have impacted their surroundings throughout history.  This presentation will conclude with a walk along Beaver Marsh Trail, where signs of recent activity might be observed.

The program fee for each of these is $4.00 per person and up to $12.00 per family.  Advanced registration is encouraged, as space is limited.  To register for these programs, visit https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/NiftyNests_235, https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/LogHotels_235, or https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/AmongBeavers_235.  For questions or more information, contact Katrina Relyea, Natural Resource Educator with the Oswego County 4-H Office, at (315)963-7286 ext. 401 or kmr276@cornell.edu
