Armistice Day Service at First Universalist Church in Central Square

Vernon Goettel, a life long member of the First Universalist Society of Central Square, was just a young boy when he rang the bell of that church on the very first Armistice Day.

The bell rang out on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, marking a formal end to World War 1.

The First Universalist bell will ring again at this same time in a special service on November 11th, the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. All are welcome to attend to remember the losses of the war and the bravery of those who fought, and to share in the hope for all wars to end and peace to prevail.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with fellowship to follow.

The First Universalist church is located at 3243 Fulton Ave (Rt. 49) in Central Square across from the fire department and is the only Unitarian-Universalist church in Oswego County, welcoming all in the spirit of justice, peace and love.
