Write a commentBarbara Ann Howard, 83 of Oswego passed away Monday evening at her home.
Born March 6, 1935 to Anthony and Helen Price Szalkowski in Utica, NY.
Barbara graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1952. She attended Ithaca College graduating Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1956 and a was member of Delta Phi Zeta. Barbara began her 60 year Physical Therapy career at Binghamton Rehab Services in the southern tier. The majority of her career was spent in the PT Department at Oswego Hospital. She would later work with Pemberton Associates, Gentiva Health and Berkley PT before retiring in 2016.
A devout catholic she served as a Eucharistic Minister with the Catholic Church, Barb enjoyed bowling, golfing at the Oswego Country Club, bridge group, gardening, beekeeping and fitness activities. Most of all she enjoyed watching her children's and grandchildren's athletic and dance competitions.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years James R. Howard, three son's James Howard II of Ogdensburg, NY, Mark (Deborah) Howard of North Syracuse, NY, Michael (Su-Ann) Howard of Minetto, NY. a sister Dorothy (Michael) Evelo of Whitesboro, NY and brother Anthony (Mary) Szalkowski of Chantilly, VA, Grandchildren James (Rachel) Howard III, Kathryn (Gerald) Bottari, Kimberly (Joseph) Pacific, Christina Howard, Michael Howard Jr, Brittany Howard, Matthew Howard and five great-grandchildren James Howard IV, Henry Howard, Ava Bottari, Ady Bottari and Olivia Pacific, several neices and nephews. Barbara was pre deceased by both parents and a brother William (Doris) Szalkowski.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 Friday from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 10AM in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-7PM at the funeral home.
