Carol Ann Cathcart, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 09, 2024, with her family by her side, and under the loving care of Lewis County Hospice.
Carol was born on November 03, 1940, in Gouverneur, New York to the late James and Lena (Lagueux) Hewitt. She was a graduate from Oswego High School. Soon after graduating, she went right to work for local restaurants where she encountered many friends through her gift to gab.
She is survived by her three sons, Kevin (Laurie) Sheridan, Keith (Kathleen) Sheridan, of Oswego; Shawn Cathcart, of New Haven; three daughters, Kim (Mark) McPherson, of Oswego; Katherine L. Bradwisch, of Chittenango; and Erin Cathcart of Syracuse. Carol was predeceased by her husband Gene Ropelewski, three beloved grandsons, Taylor Gordon Sheridan, Kevin Robert Sheridan and Markee Cathcart.
She was one of 10 children; Survived by her last living sibling Jeanette Woods of Clinton, Mass; and eight siblings who preceded her in death: Her brothers Ronald. Hewitt, Richard Hewitt, Robert Hewitt, Arthur Hewitt, Charles Hewitt, and her sisters Marion Flanagan, Arlene Leavens, and Diane Hewitt.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her 16 grandchildren; Brett Sheridan, Alexis (Coleman) Littles, Zachary Sheridan, Ashley (Gino) Knopp, Adam (Cari Reed) McPherson, Allison (Brian) Dowdle, Dustin (Gretchen) Hanley, Christopher Hanley, Morgan Hanley Adams, Cole Borrow; Johnnie, Javaris, Aryanna Gartrell, Kimball, Kenyatta, KimMaya Joyner, and Nick Miller who was like a stepson to her.
Our dear mother was always known for her infectious smile and hearty laugh. Her sense of humor was unmatched, always ready with a witty remark, and always catching us off guard.
Beyond her humor, she was incredibly giving and selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own, never seeking the spotlight for it. She was a true helper and doer, always lending a hand to those who needed her. Her love knew no bounds, and she cared like no other. She was a loyal, loving friend to many and would go leaps and bounds to protect you. Carol will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all as she has touched the lives of many.
A private graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at St. Peters Cemetery, Oswego, NY 13126.
