Catherine “Kay” Margaret Gentile passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Oswego, New York, where she had lived her entire life.
She was the ninth child of Thomas E. and Augusta Brown Pryor and the wife of the late Bartholomew G. Gentile to whom she was happily married for over 60 years, prior to Bart’s passing in 2010.
Before she married Bart, Catherine was employed by the Marathon Corp. In 1955 Catherine and Bart founded Gentile’s Camera Shop and worked side by side for more than 35 years. Upon retirement, they passed the torch to their daughter, Susan, who continued their legacy.
Catherine was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren, her church, St. Joseph’s, and the community. Her affiliations included memberships in the D.A. Bowling League, the Oswego Country Club, Oswego Yacht Club, and the Business and Professional Women of Oswego County. Her personal interests were playing Bridge, gardening, entertaining, and traveling. Catherine and Bart spent many winters in Florida, and visited various parts of South America, the Caribbean, and Mexico with friends and family. Kay will be remembered for her humor and her grace.
Catherine is survived by her three children: daughter Pamela (Eric) Dean of Clay, New York; son Bartholomew Gentile of Oswego; and daughter Susan (Jeremy Baracca) Gentile of Kerhonkson, New York. Five grandchildren: Jennifer (Krysta) Gallagher; Jessica (Seth Smigelski) Dean; James (Durand McGilberry) Gallagher; Katherine (Adrian Boylan) Gallagher; and Geoffrey Dean. Five great grandchildren: Adagan, Olivia, Kallan, Alden and Marlow.
Calling hours will be Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. Joseph's Church in Oswego.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to a gathering at Canale’s Restaurant at noon on Monday, following the services.
