The Central Square Central School District is pleased to announce the expected continuation of the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2018-2019 school year.
The goals of Universal Pre-K are to meet the individual needs of the district’s four-year-old children in the areas of social, academic, language, emotional and physical development.
The program is designed for Central Square School District children who will be four years of age on or before December 1, 2018.
Applications are available at all district elementary school buildings and at the office of Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo at Paul V. Moore High School. Applications must be returned to the Superintendent’s office by April 13, 2018.
Children who are eligible to attend kindergarten in 2018-2019 are not eligible to participate in UPK. The UPK program is offered free of charge to randomly selected children; however, transportation is not provided and must be provided by the parent.
Depending on the applications received, sessions will be available at Millard Hawk Elementary, Brewerton Elementary, A.A. Cole Elementary and Hastings-Mallory Elementary. The program will run for 180 days in accordance with the school district calendar. Children in UPK must maintain an excellent attendance record in order to remain in the program. There will be a maximum of 18 students in each class taught by a certified teacher and a teaching assistant.
The district offers an integrated program with general education and special needs children that parallels the UPK program. Children may also be randomly selected for this program.
All children are randomly selected according to the stipulations of the UPK grant. Parents will be notified if their child has been selected for the program by the end of April, 2018. If your child is selected, registration will be May 15, 2018.
Parents will need to provide up-to-date immunizations, proof of residency and an original birth certificate at that time. The program is completely dependent on New York State grant funding and therefore, will not be offered if the finalized New York state 2018-2019 budget does not include the program.
The Central Square Central School District looks forward to working with families and children to provide an excellent beginning to the school experience.
