The Central Square Central School District’s Battle of the Books came to a dramatic conclusion this week with the crowning of age-group winners to represent the district at next week’s county-wide competition.
Teams from the district’s four elementary schools, as well as Paul V. Moore High School and Central Square Middle School, participated in the contest which challenges students to demonstrate their reading ability and knowledge of a list of 10 pre-selected books.
The A. A. Cole Elementary School team, consisting of Willow Rumble, Brianna Hales and Leigha Burnam, claimed first place in the third and fourth grade division while Sidney Foote, Jordan Vryhof and Zachary Card punched their tickets in the fifth grade division.
They will be joined by the PVM winners Carley Ramsey, Skylar Revette and Paige Winka, as well as CSMS’ Arieana Fenton, Luke Hayden and Truman Remenicky.
“Battle of the Books is a great platform for students who are avid readers to showcase their talent and hard work,” said CSMS Library Media Specialist Angela Enigk. “It takes cooperation, teamwork and there’s a lot of friendly competition.”
The champion teams will move on to compete in the Oswego County Battle of the Books against the other eight county school districts to be held on Thursday, March 15 at John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix.
