Carol Gazitano, LMFT, Deputy Director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County and Coordinator for the County Child Fatality Review Team (CFRT), recently presented to Fulton Noon Rotarians about upcoming events promoting child safety.
The review team’s community outreach activities blend seamlessly with the mission of the CAC to support child safety and welfare across Oswego County. “The CFRT has a multi-disciplinary team looking for common risk factors to help identify suitable prevention efforts,” Gazitano told the Rotarians. Some past efforts put forward by the team include safe sleep campaigns for infants, car seat safety, and others.
The team’s next big community endeavor is revitalizing the Bike Rodeo and Family Fun Day Event. A grant supporting their work—as well as smart community collaborations—has allowed the CFRT to plan an incredible day of free fun that also supports their summer safety goals, including improved bike safety. “We’ll have over 200 helmets to give away,” Gazitano said, “along with 5 bikes we’ll be raffling off.”
In addition to the safety giveaways, there will also be free hot dogs from Jillie Dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy. “Our goal is for everyone to have a great time without needing a dollar in their pocket,” Gazitano said.
Other aspects of safety that will be covered at the event include water safety information, the importance of sunblock and bug spray, and an opportunity to make child ID tags for children prone to running or getting lost in crowds. The Oswego County Health Department will also be on-site and, upon request, will be able to pull up children’s immunization records to review with the parents and help identify any gaps.
Participation in this incredible event is entirely free. The Bike Rodeo and Family Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th, from noon to 4pm, at the Fulton War Memorial.
