Cidermoon Coffee will be hosting “Lunches from Around the World” every Saturday in January, starting this Saturday, Jan. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The menu for this Saturday is “Greek Day.” The appetizer consists of mini Spanakopitas, the salad is sliced cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, green peppers and feta cheese with a traditional oregano vinaigrette. The entree is pan seared chicken breast topped with plum tomatoes, spinach, lemon, oregano and feta cheese. And finally, the dessert is a Finika cookie topped with crushed walnuts and served with orange, honey dipping sauce and Cidermoon coffee.

Cidermoon Coffee owner Diane Dempsey will be collaborating with La Parilla chef James Toy, who will be preparing the dishes for each “Lunches from Around the World” event.

“He’s really a fantastic chef,” Dempsey said.

The idea of preparing culturally-diverse meals occurred to Dempsey during the holidays.

“I was making cookies from around the world,” Dempsey said. “Recipes from Africa, Colombia, Asia and Poland. I was soon selling out of them and people kept coming in and buying trays full of them. It made me see that people in Oswego are really eager to try something new.”

So Dempsey decided to collaborate with Toy, who is experienced in making culturally-diverse cuisine at La Parilla.

“I grew up in Greece so for the first event I wanted to make Greek food,” Dempsey said.

Each Saturday will contain a different theme.

“We can’t decide if we want to do Hungarian or Indian for next week,” Dempsey admitted. “But either way, I wanted to create an opportunity for people to leave their homes on a cold Saturday to try something new.”

Although Dempsey is not sure how the food will be received by her customers, she wanted to give it a shot and prepare food for those who are interested in trying new cuisine.

“If anyone is interested in a particular country, please call us and let us know so we can work something out,” Dempsey said.
