Oswego Wrestling Nearly Upsets No. 22 Brockport

Oswego Wrestling Nearly Upsets No. 22 Brockport

The Oswego State wrestling team took No. 22 Brockport down to the wire in a 27-17 loss on Wednesday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. Oswego also hosted a high school tri-match between Poland High School, Port Byron High School and Oswego High School. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 4-5 in duals on the year while the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles stay unbeaten at 4-0.

Oswego's first win of the night came in a 6-3 decision at 141 pounds by Justin DeLucia. The junior trailed 3-1 halfway through the second period when a DeLucia take down evened the score at 3-3. DeLucia chose bottom heading into the final period and used an escape followed by another takedown for the 6-3 victory.

The Lakers put together three-straight weight class wins to pull to within one, 18-17. It started with reigning ECWC Wrestler of the Week Alex Herringshaw's pin at 3:30 for six points at 165. At 174, junior Troy Seymour shut out his Golden Eagle counterpart 6-0 for another three points for the Lakers. Jeff Lombardi has a thrilling pin at 197 as he erased a 5-2 deficit by causing a fall at 3:15.

Brockport's Triston Engle – nationally-ranked at No. 9 for 197-pounders in the latest NWCA poll – was able to record a pin, however, to put the match out of Oswego's reach.

The Lakers will return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday when they travel to Cortland to take part in the annual ECWC Championships.
