News from the Assembly Minority Leader

Statement From Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay

Will Barclay

After a great deal of consideration, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the 120th Assembly District. I intend to step down as Minority Leader in the coming days, allowing for a smooth transition to new leadership early in the legislative session.

Women's Basketball Opens 2016-2017 Campaign with a Loss

The Oswego State women's basketball team opened its 2016-17 campaign with a 63-46 road loss to Clarkson University on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium. Oswego is now 0-1 overall while the Golden Knights start 1-0.

Heading into the second quarter, Clarkson held a slight 14-9 advantage but tacked on a 10-point margin in that quarter to lead 36-21 at the half. Oswego played tough second half, outscoring the Golden Knights 13-12 in the third quarter and competing to just a three-point deficit in the final period.

Courtney Ameele filled the stat sheet on Tuesday, including tying a game-high with 16 points along with two Clarkson players. The junior shot above 50.0% (5-for-8) from the field, 4-for-7 of which came from beyond the arc. She was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, collected two rebounds and had one steal, block and assist.

Also in double figures for the Lakers was Mary Mazzella with 10 points. The senior had five boards on the night, a category led by classmate Heather Hebert. Hebert finished with eight rebounds, split evenly on the offensive and defensive glass. Junior Zana Dillard and newcomer Morgan Jordal were close behind Hebert, each collecting seven caroms.

Oswego will look to capture its first win when it returns to the court at 1 p.m. on Friday against Grove City College in the Allegheny College Memorial Tip-Off.
