In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Cancer Services Program has partnered with health providers throughout Oswego County to raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage community members to receive the cancer screenings they need.

The highlight of the Cancer Services Program’s awareness campaign takes place Saturday, Oct. 29, at The Hannibal Pharmacy, 450 Fulton St., Hannibal from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Community members are invited to get their pink on and help OCO form a human pink ribbon at 1:00 p.m.

Carolyn Handville, coordinator for the OCO Cancer Services Program, has made appearances throughout the county disseminating information on the free clinical breast exams, mammograms and other free cancer screenings that are offered through OCO’s Cancer Services Program.

“Our goal continues to be to raise awareness and register eligible community members who are both uninsured and between 40 and 64 years of age into the program to obtain their free cancer screenings. October provides an added opportunity for the Cancer Services Program to promote the services offered through the program and to support the many community members in Oswego County that have been affected by this disease,” said Handville.

“We’re looking forward to our 7th Annual Human Pink Ribbon,” said Handville. “Each year our ribbon has increased in size and we cannot wait to meet and greet participants. We expect this year’s Human Pink Ribbon to be the biggest yet!” she added.

The Human Ribbon will be part of a breast cancer awareness event that begins at noon and includes free gifts for breast cancer survivors, free drawings and refreshments. There will also be face painting, crafts for sale and a variety of health related information available for attendees.

Eligible community members will also be able to schedule an appointments for free mammograms and clinical breast exams as well as other cancer screenings. For more information on the Human Pink Ribbon celebration or OCO’s Cancer Services Program, contact Handville at 315-592-0830.
