Write a commentD. Esther Sharkey, 89, a resident of Oswego Town, died December 9, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
Born in Williamson, NY, she was the daughter of the late Courtice and Florence (Fairfax) Rogers.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Dempster Grove Camp Meeting Assoc., the Oswego Town Historical Society, a past member of the Oswego Town Senior Citizens and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Jane Pelton, of Texas; Joyce (Thomas) Pavek, of Ohio; Mary Young, of Texas; Marjorie (Timothy) Malone, of Oswego Town; Julie (Timothy) DeSacia, of Oswego Town; a daughter-in-law, Janice Sharkey, of Mississippi; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a cousin Phyllis Robison of Pulaski; several nieces, nephews and her beloved cat Lilly.
She was predeceased by her husband Marshall C. Sharkey Sr. (2013); her son Marshall C. Sharkey Jr. (2006); a son-in-law David Pelton Sr. and two brothers, G. Gordon Sowers and C. Edward Sowers.
Calling hours will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
