Daniel C. Lyons, 68, a resident of Oswego, passed January 29, 2014, after a long illness, with his family by his side.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Gordon and Anita (Karth) Lyons. Daniel was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran, serving from 1963-1969, where he earned several medals including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart with Valor. He retired from Fort Ontario as Maintenance Supervisor and was a former commander of the VFW Post 5885.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Jeanette (Vivlemore) Lyons; two daughters, Melissa Van Buren of Jacksonville, FL and Pamela Lyons of Oswego; four grandchildren, Courtney LaVere, Angela Van Buren, Dustin Van Buren, and Laura Van Buren; one sister, Roxanne Jock of Lake Havasu, AZ; and several nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Danny."
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Dwayne, Dennis and Jack Lyons.
Calling hours will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, February 1, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany Street, Oswego.
