David Daniel O’Brien III, 52, died Friday, February 5 in his home in Lynn Haven, Florida.

David was born in Travis AFB, California to Dr. David and Alice Jean Mack O’Brien. A lifelong resident of Oswego, NY, David was educated at St. Mary’s School, and Bishop Cunningham High School, graduating in 1981.
David achieved two Associates degrees from Onondaga Community College in Math, Science and Chemical Technology before graduating from his father’s beloved alma mater, LeMoyne College with dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry in 1993.

His career began at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals, moving to Safety Kleen Environmental Services for hazardous waste management. He worked for Army Corps of Engineers in Quality Control for Water Safety in Washington, DC, before moving back to Florida, where he was a civilian employee for the United States Air Force. He has worked at Tyndall AFB for the past 11 years, most recently as an Air Programs manager. He was a dedicated civil servant, striving for the preservation of our environment.

David was a person who dedicated his life to caring for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice Jean Mack O’Brien and David Daniel O’Brien, Jr, his sister, Diane Barry and brother Michael O’Brien. His lifelong mission was to eradicate the travesty wrought to families suffering with Huntington’s disease.

David is survived by sisters, Kathryn Caltabiano, Meghan Donaldson, Alice Ross; brothers Christopher O’Brien and Protus Mayunga, and in-laws, Anthony Caltabiano, David Barry, Bruce Donaldson, Eric Ross, Liliana Aguilar and Stephanie Gindele as well as many nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved.

Calling hours will be at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home on Friday, February 12th from 5-7pm and a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Saturday, February 13th at 10am in Oswego, NY.
