Dorothy `Jeannie` Welling, 82, a resident of Fulton, passed away on Sunday, October 5th.

Born in Fulton, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Irene (Branshaw) Hawksby and had attended Fulton schools. Mrs. Welling was employed as a lunch supervisor for over 20 years in the Fulton school district, where the students affectionately referred as "Grandma". She was always willing to listen and help students in need when the occasion arose. Jeannie could often be found at Wilson Farms playing her scratch offs. She enjoyed showing off her Christmas sweaters and loved playing bingo. Her friends looked forward to her company at the Fulton Mills, especially her friend Betty. She cherished her visits with her nieces, nephews and family. She was never alone, as her dependable cockatiel birds Barney and Petey, would keep up the conversation. She was known for her outstanding memory, recalling dates and events of many years past with ease. Jeannie also exhibited a wonderful sense of humor, always delivered with impeccable timing.

Surviving are her brother, Joseph (Lynne) Hawksby of Minetto, several nieces and nephews, including her dear nephew Dirk Forbes.
She was predeceased by her sister Myrlene in 2014.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Association of Mentally Handicapped Children.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care for Jeannie by the staffs at the Oswego Hospital and the Michaud Nursing Home.

Arrangements are in care of the Dowdle Funeral Home.
