Dr. Myron L. Dimon, Sr. DVM, “Doc” of Oswego, NY, passed away peacefully into the arms of his savior at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his family at the age of 97.
Born in Parish, NY, April 27, 1922, a son of the late Loyal C. Dimon and Elizabeth Wilson Dimon. Myron graduated from Mexico Academy in 1939, and Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1945.
After marrying Gladys Schwarzmeir from Syracuse, NY, he joined the practice of Dr. Harshey Leonard in Mexico, NY for one year.
Myron then set up his private practice in Oswego, NY where he became the Oswego County Veterinarian, faithfully serving and befriending the area farmers.
For more than 60 years, Dr. Dimon practiced veterinary medicine in Oswego County, with a focus on large animals.
He worked with state and local health officials to set up milk stations for inspections, tuberculosis testing on cows, and single-handedly launched the county’s first rabies clinics.
After selling his practice in 1990, he worked for Sennett Sales and the Oswego Animal Shelter, as well as continuing to participate in the Oswego County Rabies Clinics.
Myron was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Oswego for over 70 years and belonged to the Gideons International.
Myron is predeceased by his wife, Gladys Schwarzmeir Dimon in 2006, his 2 brothers Ewrin (Lorraine) Dimon and George (Estelle Rose) Dimon and 2 sisters Ruth (Wendall) Crabtree and Marjory (Edgar) Stone.
Surviving are his six daughters, Sally (John) Rustin of Speculator, NY; Susan (Paul) Wallace of North Syracuse; Sandra ( Rev. Fred) Sykes of Canton, NY; Sydney (Alton) Moody of Natick, Mass; Sheila (Ron) Ballinger of Andover, Mass; and Shelly (Michael) Deliz of Merrit Island, Fla; a son Myron “Skip” Dimon Jr. of Oswego; 13 grandchildren; Emily Rustin Sewnauth, Jonathan Rustin, Ben Wallace, Chelsea Wallace Ingrassia, Heather Wallace Murphy, Beth Sykes Collins, Katy Sykes, Rebekah Sykes, Meghan Moody Batstone, Scott Moody, Erin Moody, Michael Deliz Jr., and Gabriella Deliz; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 3-6PM Wednesday, July 10th at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 10AM Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church, 7111 NY-104 West Oswego. with a graveside to follow at 1:30PM at Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish, NY.
