A love of reading, friendship and family engagement connected the extended Leighton Elementary family together during the school’s 20th annual Dr. Seuss Night.
Students, their families, peers and school staff members joined together to celebrate the joys around literacy and the fun which has stemmed from Dr. Seuss books. A plethora of hands-on activities related to Dr. Seuss books were available for the young learners to complete. Attendees enjoyed potato prints, red fish and blue fish creations, a scavenger hunt, a photo booth, cup stacking, read-alouds, painting and a reader’s theater with special guests from Oswego Players, among several other activities.
Each child received a Dr. Seuss-themed bag, a bookmark, Cat-in-the-Hat headband and a Dr. Seuss book to take home. Guests were also treated to pizza and cake, donated by the Oswego Walmart. Community members also donated funds, which covered the cost of various supplies.
The event was held in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Week.
