Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Edwin and Leona (Cullivan) Ackerley.
He worked as a Boilermaker for the Local 175.
Ed was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and sports fan. He enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Surviving are his wife, Cynthia (Regan) Ackerley, his daughters, Andrea Collins (Mike Stevenson) of Albany; Susan (Richard) Kon of Oswego; Staci (Michael) Silliman, of Oswego; a sister, Millie Sherman, of Oswego; six grandchildren, Megan Collins, Liam Collins, Julia Kon, Kyle Kon, Nicholas Boone, John Stevenson, Conor Stevenson and Andrew Boone; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a twin sister Suzanne King.
