End of Summer a Little Sweeter for Local Families in Need

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the date for the Fair Cares Program as August 22.

The New York State Fair recently announced that Erin’s Angel’s of CNY has been accepted into the 2025 Fair Cares Program. Since its inception in 2014, Fair Cares, formerly Adopt a Family, has helped more than 2,500 families enjoy a fun-filled day by providing vouchers for free Fair admission, free parking, and free food for families who otherwise would not be able to afford a visit to The Fair.

Erin’s Angels of CNY is honored to receive 65 Fair Cares entries, including parking passes and lunch vouchers, allowing families from their Summer Meals Program to attend the New York State Fair on August 29th and enjoy a day of fun, connection, and community.

“For many of the families we serve, a day at the New York State Fair is something they’ve only dreamed about. Through the Fair Cares program, that dream becomes a reality. It’s more than just rides and food—it’s a chance for children to feel joy, to make memories, and to know that their community sees them, values them, and wants them to experience the same happiness as every other child. We are deeply grateful for this gift of inclusion and hope,” stated Sheila Dion, Founder and Executive Director of Erin’s Angels of CNY.

Ms. Dion established Erin’s Angels in 2017, transforming the tragic loss of 11-year-old Erin Maxwell into a powerful mission to create lasting change. Under her leadership, the organization has grown significantly, supported by a dedicated volunteer team committed to addressing food insecurity and protecting children in New York State. The mission of Erin’s Angels is to mobilize the community, individuals and resources to provide food for kids in need.

The Fair Cares Program is made possible through a partnership with the New York State 529 College Savings Program, the New York State Department of Health, and Fidelis Care and WellCare by Fidelis Care. The Great New York State Fair begins on August 20 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 1.

“Working to find new and meaningful ways to ensure The Fair is accessible to as many families as possible has always been one of our top priorities. Fair Cares has been an instrumental resource in helping share the beloved, lasting memories that are formed here at the Fair with New York families of all kinds,” said Julie LaFave, Fair Director.
