Two $1,000 Scholarships Available for Oswego County High School Seniors

Erin’s Angels of CNY is proud to announce that applications are now open for the Feed the Future Scholarship Program, awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Oswego County who plan to attend college or trade school. One scholarship is dedicated to a high school senior graduating from the Phoenix Central School District.

The scholarships are part of Erin’s Angels’ broader mission to address both the immediate and long-term impacts of poverty and food insecurity by investing in education and opportunity.

According to Feeding America, approximately 1 in 5 children in Oswego County faces food insecurity, and many families continue to struggle with the rising costs of housing, food, and transportation. Poverty remains one of the strongest predictors of limited educational opportunity, making community-based scholarship support a critical tool in helping break the cycle.

“Feeding the future is about more than meals, it’s about momentum,” said Lu Hart, Vice President of the Board of Directors for Erin’s Angels of CNY. “When we invest in education, we invest in empowerment. These scholarships help students move beyond survival mode and step into their potential with confidence and support.”

The Feed the Future Scholarship Program recognizes students who have demonstrated resilience, academic commitment, and community service, particularly those who have volunteered to combat food insecurity or overcome significant hardship.

Diana Wolgemuth, Chairperson of Erin’s Angels Scholarship Committee, emphasized the program’s long-term vision.

“Our goal is not only to feed children today, but to help them build lives of stability and success tomorrow. Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to break the cycle of poverty and empower young people to thrive.”

Past recipients say the scholarship made a transformative difference in their lives.

“This scholarship has allowed me to go to an institution that I greatly enjoy, and has allowed me to academically, athletically and socially find more things that I am interested in,” said Cody Perry, a past scholarship recipient. “Allowing me to find which areas of Civil Engineering I enjoy, finding more lifelong friends. The scholarship has allowed me to achieve so many new things in my life that I am grateful for.”

Another recipient, Margo Kitting, shared how community support made her dreams achievable:

“When I looked at college my dreams of going to Binghamton University seemed out of reach as the SUNY school didn’t offer me any financial aid. Binghamton has one of the best pharmacy programs in the nation and I wanted to find a way for me to be able to attend. After applying for and getting community scholarships like this one, my dream became more achievable.”

Erin’s Angels of CNY believes that food, education, and opportunity should be a right for every child. Through meals, scholarships, outreach, and advocacy, the organization works to ensure children are nourished, supported, and empowered to succeed in life.
