February fundraising effort supports students facing food insecurity in Sandy Creek Central School District
As the second half of February begins, Erin’s Angels of CNY is encouraging community members to help finish its annual Share the Love campaign strong in support of families in the Sandy Creek Central School District experiencing food insecurity.
Throughout February, donations made through the Sandy Creek giving option on the Erin’s Angels website are being directed to backpack and food assistance programs serving local students. With just weeks remaining in the campaign, the organization is calling on individuals, businesses and community partners to help maximize the impact.
Approximately 1 in 5 children in Central New York faces food insecurity, according to regional data. Many students rely on subsidized school meals during the week, leaving families especially vulnerable during weekends, holidays and school breaks.
“Food insecurity doesn’t stop halfway through the month, and neither can we,” said Lu Hart of Erin’s Angels of CNY. “As we move into the second half of February, we’re asking our community to help us cross the finish line strong so families in Sandy Creek have consistent, dependable support.”
Funds raised through Share the Love will help sustain and strengthen the district’s backpack program, which provides discreet, child-friendly meals for students to take home. The goal is to ensure children have access to nutritious food beyond school hours and to reduce hunger-related stress that can impact learning and well-being.
Erin’s Angels of CNY works to unite people and resources to make food, education and opportunity a right for every child. Concentrating February donations on Sandy Creek allows the organization to deepen its impact within one school community while continuing its broader mission across Oswego County.

“We believe no child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from,” said Mary Ann D’Addio from the Erin’s Angels of CNY Board of Directors. “With the community’s help, we can make sure Sandy Creek families feel supported not just this month, but well beyond it.”
Erin’s Angels of CNY, founded in 2017, provides weekend meal bags to every student in need in the Phoenix Central School District and has an outreach program to help other school districts and community programs. While Erin’s Angels currently serves children in the Phoenix Central School District, the long-term vision is to expand their reach and provide food to kids experiencing food insecurity across Central New York, ensuring that no child goes hungry.
