Esther D. Smith, 86, and a lifetime resident of Oswego, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Luke Health Services, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Oswego, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Esther Menter Lockwood.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a loving mother and wife.
She is survived by her husband, Norman H. Smith, of Oswego; three daughters, Sharon A. Smith and Theresa J. Ciappa, both of Oswego, and Jeanette M. (Pat) Whitehouse, of Pulaski; one son, Daniel J. Smith, of Oswego, one sister, Elizabeth Ann Stadelmyer, of Ocala, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Traci Young Terpening, Dawn Donahue Fernandez, Todd Donahue, Anthony Ciappa, Gregory Smith, Anastasia Smith, Miranda Smith and Adam Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Alexander Fernandez, Brianna Fernandez, John Patrick Ciappa, Nathaniel Smith, Abigail Donahue, Sydney Yu Terpening, Daniel Donahue, Samantha Hua Terpening, Emma Ciappa and Sammy Ciappa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Doug Smith, who died in 1998; one sister, Marie Porter; three brothers, Richard Lockwood, Thomas Lockwood and David Lockwood.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m., Friday, May 24, from St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
Contributions in Esther's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
