Write a commentDid you know that one in 100 children are born with a congenital heart defect? Furthermore, did you know the American Heart Society only contributes one percent of its funds to this cause?
Katie Price, of Oswego, knows this. Her great-nephew was born with a heart defect and she has single-handedly decided to make a difference for the cause.
"My great-nephew is is turning 3 this Valentine's Day," she said. "I thought it would be great to go to a ball and have a night out, being a mommy and all. So, I decided to combine the efforts for a good cause."
To that end, Price is hosting the first Heal a Heart Valentine's Ball, from 6-11 p.m, Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Oswego Elks Club. All proceeds will be donated to The Children's Heart Foundation which focuses on these needs.
Price may have started this mission alone, but said when she reached out to the community for help, Oswego answered.
"You can Help Heal A Heart with your ticket purchase which includes a sit-down dinner of your choice; dancing with Randy Farnsworth of Celebrations DJ Service, who generously donated the majority of his services," she said. "There will also be a dessert table thanks to Man in the Moon Candies, Cake's Galore, Aunt Mary's Italian Cookies and Carleen Boulais of Lindt Truffles."
Price said many other local businesses have donated items for gift basket raffles and there will also be a chance to win a one-hour horse drawn carriage ride courtesy of Black Magic Stables for just $10 a ticket.
"Everyone has been so generous and I can't thank them enough," Price said.
Tickets are $35/person or $65/couple and will be on sale through Feb. 4.
