Ford A. Babcock, 79, of Oswego passed away on December 29, 2014.

He was born in Oswego, the son of the late Ford A. and Mabel Babcock. A native of Oswego, Ford lived in Oswego his entire life. He graduated from Oswego High School in 1953. Ford worked for several area employers, including Musico's, Columbia Mills, and retired after 27 years of service from SUNY-Oswego. Ford enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to auctions, which he did with his grandson James later on in life.

One of Ford's greatest accomplishments was the fight to establish and start the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department. Ford hopes to meet up with Bradford Livesley and William Carter in the after-life, as these three individuals are the original-founding members who started the Fire Department. Ford was Fire Police Captain for many years, retiring as a Life Member.

He was predeceased by his sisters EJ Babcock, Geraldine Wilmott, and Mabel Jean Kelly, and an infant daughter Linda Marie.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna (Thompson) Babcock, four children: Ford A. (Sherry) Babcock III, Paul Babcock, John (Marti) Babcock, and Donna Gilman, all of Oswego; two sisters Nettie Armstrong of North Carolina; and Kathy Wayland of Oswego; eleven grand children; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held 3-5 p.m. Thursday, with a service to follow, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego. Spring burial will be at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.

The family has requested that donations in lieu of flowers be made to either the Oswego Town Volunteer Fire Department or to the Alzheimers Association.
