Francis H. Abare,88, a resident of Oswego passed away on April 29 at the Oswego Hospital.

Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., he was a son of the late Herbert and Lillian (St.John) Abare and had attended schools in Lyon Mountain.

Mr. Abare had a long and successful employment career starting at the Pal Blade Co. before World War II. After the war he was employed with Singer Sewing Machine Co., the Fox Foundation Co.,Silver Star Restaurant and the Alma Foundation. He was the Production Foreman at the Flexowire from 1967-1982. He was a bus driver for the Mexico City School District and the Golden Sun Bus Service and was cab driver in Oswego. He was the owner of Abare's Sewing Machine Repair and Vacuum Cleaner Business.. He worked in Civil defense for 35 years including 17 years with the Auxiliary Police in the City of Oswego.

Mr.Abare was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion #268 and the Oswego Masonic Lodge #127.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Joan Bush, six children, Nancy (Gaylord) Sawyer of Oswego, William Abare of Scriba, Cindy (Govind) Acharya of Arizona, Shirley (Dan) Brett of Scriba, Joan Abare on Oswego, Everett (Ann) Abare of Oswego, four sisters, Gloria McClary of Plattsburgh, Bernice Houser of Gulderland N.Y., Barb Bouchard of Plattsburgh, Patricia Barrow of Missouri, 24 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Herbert Abare.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 from St.Peter's Church.

Burial will be in St.Paul's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00-7:00.
