Frank J. Plata, 96, of Oswego, died April 27, 2019 at St. Luke Health Services.

A lifelong Oswegonian, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Krupa) Plata.

Frank served in the Army Air Corp. from 1942-1945. He served in the European Theater and was based in Italy. He was a first lieutenant. Frank received the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, the Air Medal, and also received a Purple Heart.

Frank graduated from Oswego High School and later attended Alliance college.

He was a mechanical engineer and retired from Alcan.

He was an accomplished golfer, and was a member of the Oswego Country Club for more than 50 years. He also loved to spend time gardening and loved spending his time with his family.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Connie (Dan) Jackson of Oswego and two sons, Frank Jr. (Trish) of Saratoga and Dan (Koren) of Chicago; sister, Azelyn Alfieri of Camillus; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen (Kaczowka) and two brothers, Ralph and Edward Plata.

Calling hours will be held 11am to Noon, Wednesday May 1st, with a service to follow, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Peter’s Mausoleum.
