The global environmental competition, GENIUS Olympiad, wrapped up yesterday, June 20 at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center arena with medals, prizes, a stage full of enthusiastic flag-waving competitors and praise for the high school students from around the world and their environmental science, art, writing and design projects.
The finalists and their mentors – more than 500 in all – hailed from 52 countries and 37 states.
The third annual competition, with lead sponsors SUNY Oswego, Terra Science and Education Foundation and National Grid, attracted science educators and graduate students from around Central New York to judge the projects, and introduced competitors to SUNY Oswego, Niagara Falls and Destiny USA. The GENIUS Olympiad also featured a symposium, international cultural fair and a college fair.
