George R. Rice, 90, a resident of Oswego, passed away Thursday, at the Oswego Hospital, with his family by his side.
Mr. Rice was born in Oswego, the son of the late George and Esther (Bailey) Rice. He was a life resident of the area.
Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated the Rice Disposal Co. in Oswego for 40 years.
His wife of 62 years, Murriel (Spaulding) Rice, died in 2016.
Mr. Rice was a race car driver at the Oswego Speedway until the early 1960s, and was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. He loved going to breakfast at Dahl’s Diner, and also enjoyed making trips to the casino.
He is survived by three sons, David (Brenda) Rice, Edward (Mary Jean) Rice, and Kenneth (Lisa Sheldon) Rice, all of Oswego; two grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Albee and Stacey (Hunter) Raines; a sister, Ruth (Butch) Owen of Oswego; a great-grandchild, Madison Albee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by six siblings, Donald Rice, Charles Rice, Pearl Taylor, Jenny Dyker, Ellen Rodriguez, and Mary Gummer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
Burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 Monday, at the funeral home.
